About me

I am a contemporary visual artist and illustrator.I don't know when my passion for art had started, it feels like I was born with it in 20 novembre 1995. During my childhood My mother used to accompany me to the Opera house in Cairo to participate in painting and drawing workshops.Between 2013 and 2018, I was enrolled in Faculty of Art Education (Helwan University) in Cairo, where I studied design, drawing, painting, sculpturing, pottery, Anthropology, and Art history. During my years in the university, I started an internship in ASCII founded and guided by Shady El-Noshokaty, where I developed my passion for analog visual mediums, specially analog photography. My areas of work and research are related to the history of violence and the relation between violence, torture and performance. In 2019 I Joined Roznama Studio programme moderated by Medrar for contemporary arts, where I worked on the development of my research methods. In 2020 I started my master in édhéa (école design et haute école d'art) in Sierre, Switzerland, where I developed my research about public executions as performative spectacles. In 2022 I pursued my Master of Arts in public spheres. During that master I discovered my passion to comics and fanzines, so I started auto publishing books, stories and fanzines. In 2023, I joined the HEP (Haute école Pédagogique) in St-Maurice, Switzerland in order to obtain a teaching degree in visual arts.I currently live and work in Sion, Switzerland, Where I work on my fanzines, books and illustrations in addition to my part-time teachinf job.

The covered City (1st edition)

Having a double life in totally two different communities has formed my personality not only to tolerate and accept difference but also to be observant to all details. The Covered City is an objective project, that has very personal origins of visual storytelling to my diaries based on the collective memory during the years I spent in the community of Muslim women, who wore niqab and covered themselves as a form of protection, modesty and worship. The Covered City is an ongoing project consists of seasons and editions updating and interacting with the international trends.

The covered city (2nd edition)

In 2022, I was inspired by the list of Inktober to create this second series of illustrations.

The covered city (3rd edition)

During the covid-forced-stay-at-home vacations, I got the opportunity to watch all the movies on my watch list, which inspired me with this series. These scenes inspired me with the combination between texts and image in the covered city.

The witches' club

After working on the history of witch hunt, I was hunted by the idea of drawing witches, imagining them in different areas of life. They are humans after all, aren't they ?

Interstellaire

This project was a commission assigned to me by Opale fondation. I was inspired by a group exhibition of aborigine artists to create this booklet to guide children through the exhibition visit.

A Reflection of reality showing the dark and cruel sides of the unpredictable cartoon characters. How pain and disappointment can be found in the least places.

The dark side of disney

Montreux Jazz festival

This is not the official poster of Montreux Jazz festival 2021, but, it was designed for the competition of alternative posters for the first edition of the festival after the Covid-19 lockdown. The theme of the competition was "RESTART" as a new beginning after a long break of #StayAtHome era.To give it more of a context, the illustration of Freddie Mercury is based on a monumental statue in the heart on the lake side walk in Montreux.

Fishlower

There are experimental illustrations of an imaginary crossbred fish and flowers

How do you trust a fly - Fanzine

Balcony - Book

An informative book that documents the research diaries of almost seven years regarding the subject of public executions. In this book, several questions are discussed like:
-What is the performance?
-What is the execution?
-How are they linked?
-What is the spectacle?
-Could be a spectacle without spectators?
-What is Public?

Extraordinary - Illustrated story

Peter is an old man who suffers from his solitude, he took a decision that changed his life forever.

How to dance with a knife

Watching people dancing in the streets is a folkloric practice that has been practiced by almost everyone in all the cultures and traditions all over the world throughout history.Violence and terror are as old as human beings on earth. This project highlights the connection between violence and art through producing manuals to dance with a knife. This is an ongoing project that will continue taking the form of board games, manuals and posters of other domestic objects being used out of context in a form of violent artistic practice.

About homes, bodies and their inhabitants. - fanzine

This one edition fanzine is a spontaneous transcript of my thoughts and rections on homes, bodies and their inhabitants.

ISIS Vs Phalaris - Fanzine

“The purpose of torture is not getting information. It’s spreading fear.” - Eduardo Galeano.
Executions has always been performed in a form of a spectacle in order to spread fear, in all eras. This project is divided into two parts the first part is a publication of a comparative text between execution in two different ages from a performative perspective, and the second part is a visual moving image that has an indirect projection and a relation to the spectacle of the executions mentioned in the publication.

The current cube - video

“According to some found suspicious writings on the walls of Cairo streets, I made a fake Investigation about these non-understandable wall writings; which based on objective and subjective hypotheses”

The found letter - video

In 2000, social media platforms were not as widely used as they are cur- rently. Alternative, people reached to one another with letters, trying to defeat distance, time and abandonment their relative ease of maintaining open paths for communication presently does not change the fact that letters, emails, and other forms of remote communication sometimes fail to sustain effective relationships in a long-term. This video is based on a found letter that was intentionally meant to be a birthday card, sent by an artist’s father’s sister in 2000. The artist found the letter after 16 years later; in the video, she tries to reply in an ironic way addressing abandon- ment and absence.

wipe it down

Keeping up with social media trends during covid lockdown.

The woman that Chaplin pissed off - video

An experimental project with merging found footages and rotoscoping animation technique.

Last words - embroidery installation

The craft of embroidery takes forms of collective and individual practice. The simple act of passing a needle and thread through fabric has shaped the identity of cultures and regions through the ages. Embroidery is consi- dered a feminine activity. Social and historical aspects are attached to it. Beyond that, it is also a technique for covering, preserving or refurbishing objects.
For Last Words, the embroidery becomes a way to bring to life the last words of people past or present – mostly women – who have been exe- cuted due to miscarriages of justice.

Adult toys

Popular understandings of the terms “sex” and “toys” make the pairing of both seemingly contradictory and at the very least taboo. Sex, which is strictly considered an adult activity, is at odds with common associations of toys—as an object dedicated and designed for children and teenagers. In some coun- tries, the sexual dimension of toys has been especially prevalent. For example, in countries like Japan, dildos have been produced to resemble animals or cartoon characters, such as Hello Kitty, rabbits or dolphins.
Similarly, pain, lust, and torture may all be found in specific sex toys. In the past, those who produced torture devices sometimes fabricated sex toys as well. Yet the question remains: why are torture devices and sex toys take as mutually exclusive object that cannot be used “playfully” and treated as “adult toys”? The interactive installation addresses this question and is but one part of an ongoing project concerned about the culture of torture.

Analog photography

I always Liked photography, especially when I discovered the analog photography. and I usually capture an emotion, a dialogue, a status. I may not be your first-to-go portrait photographer, but I capture what is beyond that.I usually use 35mm negative, black and white or positive film.
